"Beatle" Window

NEW YEAR's EVE
AT
THE COLLEGE CORNER CAFE
12/31/11

Brad, Smitty, & Rick

New Years Eve . .. Usually a drag or a fabricated party . . . .
Last night I was the official photographer for the opening of the coolest cafe/bar I've ever seen .. . . and I've seen a lot!

My two closest friends here are Brad Davis and Larry "Smitty" Smith . . . They are amazing guys and we all seem to read each other's mind.

Smitty owned Hut's and "Smitty's" in Austin for many many years, retired near here, and got bored so he opened The College Corner Cafe.

I designed the sound and lights and of course decorated the "Beatle" window.

Most of all my memories were added to Smitty's AMAZING collection of his Austin years after a couple "Your food is free if you help us improve" nights.

The grand opening was New Year's Eve. If you get within 100 Miles of this place you owe it to yourself to drop in. The food is amazing and the place is, as I said, THE BEST.

The group for the evening was "From Us To You" A Beatles Tribute Band who have been friends of mine for years. I was in Heaven . . . It started with sound check (easy with Beatle songs I knew pretty well) Then I felt great handing the MIX to Odel (Brad's intern who is one of my fave audio guys) Then a stop by the ranch to take some . . . "Happiness is a warm gun" pictures,

The club is across the street from 15,000 students of the A&M Commerce campus. Inexpensive but classical food that Smitty's has too many awards for. He could teach Chef Ramsey a LOT.

Ladies & Gentlemen .. . the Beatles!

Brad sat in (While my Guitar Gently Weeps). The Lads admire a great guitarist who can play ALL styles!

BA BUS TRIP

Shirley and I want to express our appreciation for a job well done last night at CCC. We dropped a big bomb on you guys with 45 people hitting you all at once. Some of our guests were a challenge to say the least. When we put the plan to do this together we thought you would have a couple of weeks of training under your belts. I know there was a lot of pressure all around but you girls kept your smiles bright for the customers. - Stan Spitler
